Fiber laser technology consumes less power than traditional CO (superscript) lasers, contributing to cost savings and environmental sustainability.

    The precision of the Trumpf 3030 ensures clean, burr-free edges, eliminating the need for secondary finishing processes and further streamlining Chapco’s production process.

    The Trumpf TruBend 7000 takes automation to a new level. This automated bending cell seamlessly integrates robotic technology with precision bending capabilities. The robotic arm allows for hands-free operation, reducing the need for manual intervention and significantly improving overall efficiency. The automated process ensures consistent bending angles and precision, eliminating variations caused by human factors and enhancing the overall quality of the final product.     CHESTER, CT, October 11, 2023 – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Connecticut’s 33rd district State Senator Norman Needleman (D-CT 33), and Connecticut’s Chief Manufacturing Officer, Paul S. Lavoie, gathered to celebrate a significant milestone as Chapco, a prominent CT manufacturer, commemorated 60 years of precision manufacturing in Middlesex County.

    CHESTER, CT, October 11, 2023 – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Connecticut’s 33rd district State Senator Norman Needleman (D-CT 33), and Connecticut’s Chief Manufacturing Officer, Paul S. Lavoie, gathered to celebrate a significant milestone marking 60 years of Chapco’s contribution to Connecticut’s critical manufacturing base.

    Chapco, established in the mid-1960s by Charlie Hurd and Al Pross, underwent a remarkable transformation under the leadership of Robert (Bob) Weinstein and his son, Brian Weinstein, who currently serves as President. The company began in a small machine shop on Denlar Drive in Chester and has since grown to encompass 70,000 sq ft of advanced manufacturing facilities across two campuses in Chester.

    Following a festive luncheon attended by customers, suppliers, local representatives, and the dedicated Chapco workforce, Senator Blumenthal highlighted the indispensable role played by manufacturers like Chapco in Connecticut’s economy and the nation’s critical defense infrastructure.

    Blumenthal emphasized, “Other states may boast natural resources like uranium and gold mines or iconic landmarks such as the Grand Canyon, but in Connecticut, our true strength lies in our ‘really smart’ people. That’s our ‘secret sauce’. Submarines are the backbone of our defense capabilities, and manufacturers like Chapco are instrumental in ensuring their supremacy.”

    Chapco proudly aligns with Connecticut’s thriving manufacturing ecosystem. “Our unwavering motto is ‘building partnerships, not just parts,’” expressed Weinstein. With a team of seasoned engineers, production technicians, and assembly personnel, Chapco provides comprehensive end-to-end services, encompassing testing, manufacturing, assembly, packaging, and fulfillment.

    Paul S. Lavoie, Connecticut’s Chief Manufacturing Officer also toured both campuses and witnessed a myriad of products crafted by Chapco, all originating from sheet metal blanks. These products included Integrated UVC’s innovative no-touch air and surface disinfection system, Icleanse’s cell phone UV disinfection devise, Fastcorp Vending’s cutting-edge automated retail solutions for regulated products, Denlar Fire Protection’s integrated fire suppression range hood systems, and the TRUEFORM.RUNNER – treadmill of choice for NFL superstars and NASCAR Race Teams.

    Lavoie, who leads the Office of Manufacturing, is dedicated to empowering manufacturers to leverage market opportunities and cement Connecticut’s status as the Silicon Valley of advanced manufacturing. “My mission is to showcase Connecticut,” Lavoie affirmed, “and companies like Chapco make that task much simpler.”

    President of Chapco and its collaborative companies, Brian Weinstein emphasized their commitment to excellence, stating, “We’ve always believed in investing in the best technologies and operating 24/7.  Our recent $1.6 million investment in a Trumpf Trumatic 6000 fiber laser punch combo underscores our dedication to meeting tight deadlines and ensuring the resilience of U.S. supply chains.”

    Assembly Technician

    Entry Level and Skilled positions reporting to Production Lead, an Assembler performs a series of operations to correctly assemble and test various Chapco related products.

    key responsibilities

    • Assembles components by examining connections for correct fit; fastening parts and subassemblies.
    • Follow detailed parts lists, assembly instructions, and templates to assemble Chapco products from start to finish.
    • Perform pre-assembly tasks such as soldering, wiring, folding, etc. when applicable.
    • Use test equipment, as provided, to assure quality output.
    • Follow department policy when an unacceptable part is found.
    • Report problems with quality, processes, equipment, and materials to the Production Lead.
    • Utilize kanban system and communicate potential parts shortages to the Production Lead when necessary.
    • Other tasks as assigned.

    • Understand inventory system; pick parts and segregate unacceptable parts following correct policy and procedure.
    • Stage materials required for assembly work, using appropriate templates when applicable.
    • Communicates questions or issues to the Production Lead to continuously produce a quality product.

    QUALITY & TRAINING

    • Understand requirements of job to assure quality, accurate quantity and on-time production.
    • Test products utilizing company tools and protocol. This may include Hi-Pot testing.
    • Participate in quality initiatives when applicable.
    • Train new department members in areas of the department where the Production Lead deems appropriate.

    In June 2017, Obelisk, Inc. launched with the goal of moving the cryptocurrency mining industry towards a future enshrined in transparency, stability, and healthy competition. In early 2018, Obelisk partnered with Ideaz mechanical and electrical design teams to develop their flagship products.

    the project

    Obelisk and Ideaz were working against an extremely aggressive development timeline of just a few months until production units needed to ship to customers. Their mechanical and electrical engineers collaborated to design the electromechanical chassis assembly, and then worked closely with Chapco’s engineers and production team to ensure a smooth process from quote to delivery.

    the challenge

    Chapco’s team offered value-added engineering services to ensure cost-effective manufacturing to meet our clients’ target pricing.

    Following prototyping, Chapco was able to employ our automated work centers to ensure we met our clients’ aggressive time line

    the solution

    Production processes included laser cutting, custom punching, robotic and conventional bending, as well as hardware insertion. Obelisk’s first production order was for 2000 kits, with each kit consisting of 5 parts. 10,000 parts were completed in 4 weeks. Three further orders followed for 2000 kits per order. All 8000 kits were completed in 16 weeks.

    The future

    Since their founding just a few years ago, Obelisk has already shipped thousands of mining units, which have generated tens of millions of dollars in revenue, and they continue to reach new customers every day. In a rapidly evolving industry where development happens in weeks, not years, and success is predicated on always being a step ahead of the competition. Obelisk has now developed into Foundation Devices.

    Before an introduction to Chapco, Saratoga Safeguard Solutions was experiencing quality issues with some of its custom metal fabrications for the Hydro-Hitch® product line. After these quality issues and also delays with previous suppliers, Saratoga Safeguard Solutions sought a strategic metal fabrication partner to help improve the overall quality of its component, increase supply chain reliability, while decreasing finished product inconsistencies, and defects.

    the challenge

    Unfortunately, its existing supplier was slow in taking the necessary steps to eliminate defective parts and meeting timelines for parts that were critical to its end products.

    When Saratoga Safeguard Solutions sought Chapco for assistance, production quality and on-time delivery were at risk.

    Nearly all composite aircraft make use of Astrostrike® for both shielding and lightning protection on large areas of the fuselage, wings, empennage, stabilizers, engine nacelles, propellers, winglets and the rotor blades. It was selected after comparison with seven alternative technologies for reasons of functionality and protection performance.

    Located in Chester, CT, Astroseal Products Manufacturing Corporation is the developer of Astrostrike®. Nearly all composite aircraft make use of Astrostrike for both shielding and lightning protection on large areas of the fuselage, wings, empennage, stabilizers, engine nacelles, propellers, winglets and the rotor blades.

    the project

    In 1983, Astroseal Products Manufacturing Corporation began developing Astrostrike®. The initial product, CU 040, was selected for use on the Bell/Boeing V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.

    Since then, nearly all composite aircraft make use of Astrostrike® for both shielding and lightning protection on large areas of the fuselage, wings, empennage, stabilizers, engine nacelles, propellers, winglets, and the rotor blades. Astroseal® has built a reputation for innovation, quality, and excellent customer service.

    the challenge

    Finding a local manufacturer that had first hand experience with manufacturing parts for the aircraft/aerospace industries who had the right facilities, equipment, and capable staff to support this new project. When Randy from Astroseal approached Chapco for assistance, production deadlines, budgets, and on-time delivery were at risk. 

    the solution

    Chapco was able to utilize its experience and expertise in aerospace fabrication and value-added capabilities, as well as its dedication to high-quality work, delivered on time, allowing Astroseal to stay true to its production schedules, budget, and expectations.

    Chapco’s vast experience with CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and working with specialized metals provided Astroseal with competitive pricing, qualified production, engineering support, and on-time delivery.

    THE FUTURE

    After coming aboard the team at Astroseal and heading the new product development project, Randy wanted to find a reputable local manufacturer that had the experience, equipment, and skill set needed to build a scaled-down air-foil model for a new product prototype concept. The prototype also needs to be manufactured to withstand the rigorous testing procedures it would have to go through for approval.
