Sheet Metal Finishing and Contract Assembly Services

Finishing isn’t cosmetic — it’s functional. For engineers, finishing impacts corrosion resistance, conductivity, durability, appearance, compliance, and long-term performance. Selecting the right finishing process early in design can reduce rework, improve lead times, and protect your product in the field. At Chapco, finishing is integrated into our fabrication and contract manufacturing workflow — not treated as an afterthought. This guide outlines the most common finishing options, when to specify them, and how to design smarter from the start.

Hardware Insertion

Finished precision sheet metal parts and fabricated components produced by Chapco, Inc.: including hardware insertion, surface finishing, and assembly

Chapco installs a full range of self-clinching and mechanical fasteners directly into sheet metal components, integrating hardware insertion into the fabrication flow so parts arrive ready for assembly. Capabilities include:

PEM standard fasteners: self-clinching nuts, studs, standoffs, and spacers permanently pressed into the sheet for strong, reusable threads without welding or loose hardware.

Custom hardware: non-standard, customer-specified, and application-specific fasteners sourced and installed to print

PEM insertion with auto-feed: automated fastener feed systems for high-volume, high-repeatability production and faster cycle times on larger runs

POP rivets, spin rivets, standard rivets, and rivet nuts (Riv-Nuts / rivet-nut threaded inserts) for blind-side fastening, thin-gauge joining, and adding load-bearing threads to sheet metal

Mechanical Surface Finishes

Hot-dip galvanized steel sheet metal components: corrosion-resistant coating service available through Chapco, Inc.'s finishing program

Chapco applies a full range of protective and decorative surface finishes to fabricated sheet metal components, coordinating finishing and outside processing within the production flow so parts arrive coated, marked, and assembly-ready. Capabilities include:

  • Deburring, vibratory tumbling, and Timesaver processing for edge and burr removal
  • orbital sanding, graining (brushed finish), cosmetic weld grinding, stainless polishing, and bead blasting for a clean, consistent surface prior to coating or as a final aesthetic finish.
